Fabiana Zambrano is an enthusiastic Joyn team member who is our Head of Product and Delivery. She is applying her expertise to building Joyn’s processes and improving each and every system and technology.
Fabiana holds a degree in Industrial Engineering from the Universidad Simón Bolívar as well as a Master of Science in Management Science and Engineering from Columbia University. She has worked for Opera Solutions as an Associate and Senior Associate where she led the financial services corporation’s process development. In the insurance industry, Fabiana spent more than three years at AIG, as a Manager and Senior Manager at Science. She then moved to work for Blackboard Insurance where she served as Head of Product and was responsible for the delivery of Blackboard’s technology product.
What’s your role at Joyn?
I am the Head of Product and Delivery on the Technology side of Joyn. Mainly, my job is to work with our business teams to define the vision of the applications we are building. Then, I work with engineering to turn that vision into reality.
I spend a significant part of each day connecting with the business to discuss the details about how we’re going to build new features. I also spend a significant amount of time working with engineers¬—crafting and reviewing requirements and testing completed work. The rest of my time at Joyn is spent in meetings where I learn more about the company and its progress.
What attracted you to Joyn?
The Joyn team is like a family and it was very exciting to embark on this incredible journey with them and face new challenges. We have an opportunity to revolutionize the insurance industry and to do it with an amazing team.
What’s unique about Joyn is that building everything from scratch liberates you from a lot of the legacy that other insurance companies have to struggle with. We also all have a mindset of continuously improving every process and every technology we use and that is very refreshing. This is the third time I am attempting to build a system for underwriters. It’s been really fun to look at everything that we did right in previous iterations and try to make it even better, and look at everything we did wrong and try to fix it.
Tell us about your passions and motivations inside and outside of Joyn.
When it comes to work, I’m really passionate about building applications that add value for users. I love how I can write requirements that turn into an actual tool that is used by people! This is exactly what I get to do at Joyn!
Outside of Joyn, I have an almost 2-year-old, so I spend a lot of time chasing her around parks. We’re also big into sports in my house, so there’s always a soccer, baseball, football, or basketball game on.
