Spotlight Series: Meet Christopher Leuer

As a proud Buffalonian, Christopher loves watching the Bills and Sabres. On workdays, however, he is laser focused on the needs of the trading relationships that he is responsible for. Read on to learn more about how he prioritizes his day and how he feels about the startup life.

Having been in multiple roles across the industry, I can see the value of Joyn’s technology for underwriters that allows us to create efficiencies and quote risks faster. That’s a huge advantage.

Christopher Leuer, one of the newest members of Joyn’s underwriting team, bring years of underwriting experience gained over nearly two decades of insurance industry experience to develop strong relationships with Joyn’s trading partners. His experience is also helpful in advancing Joyn’s business rules for its workflow platform.

Over his almost 20 years of experience, Christopher has had the opportunity to perform several roles across underwriting and broking, where he gained a deep knowledge of the E&S market. Most recently, he was on the broking side at Jencap and Marsh; prior to that, he was an E&S underwriter for RT Specialty, ARC, and Aspen Specialty.

Christopher earned an Associate of Science degree in Culinary Arts from Paul Smith’s College, and is a licensed Property and Casualty producer in the state of New York.

You are no stranger to this industry, with almost 20 years under your belt; what was the factor that caused you to come to Joyn?

Certainly the startup aspect of the company was attractive, because I feel like I can make a significant impact by really using all of my experience every day, not just one skillset for one narrowly-defined role. Having been in multiple roles across the industry, I can see the value of Joyn’s technology for underwriters that allows us to create efficiencies and quote risks faster. That’s a huge advantage. And it doesn’t hurt that Joyn, as a company, has strong and highly-regarded leadership with experience from other known industry players.

What does your job look like day to day?

First thing I do when I start my day is look at the production numbers and go through my emails to see if there are any rushes that need to be taken care of. Then I go through my worklist and quote based on effective date. That makes sure that we are triaging incoming business appropriately and responding faster to those potential insureds who need a response quickly. Speed is something that we talk about quite a bit and I want to make good on that commitment with those that I’m responsible for. To that end, Joyn’s technology allows our amazing service team to quickly filter out risks that don’t fit our appetite, so underwriters can spend more time on viable risks.

Lastly, we always like to get a sense of what you enjoy doing when you’re not working. Can you tell us a little bit about your hobbies and where we might find you?

Outside of work, I am a proud Buffalonian and enjoy spending time with my kids. I recently started volunteering to be the parent manager for my son’s soccer team. I enjoy walking, especially in New York City, and I like to golf when I have time to do so. Finally, I love watching the Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres.
