We like to see companies that are properly equipped with regularly inspected equipment, that have experienced management, and that are well-maintained. “Where other carriers might turn down an application for a laundry service in an older building, these businesses are totally within our appetite as long as they are updated and well-maintained,” said Chris Parrillo.

Joyn’s insurance offerings provide great opportunities for businesses associated with dry cleaners and laundry services. In addition to General Liability, Supported Excess, and Property coverage, Joyn also offers several special coverages that can benefit dry cleaning and laundry businesses, including equipment breakdown and employee benefits.

Joyn’s appetite is robust, and we are looking for all kinds of businesses, including new ventures. We like to see companies that are properly equipped with regularly inspected equipment, that have experienced management, and that are well-maintained.

“Where other carriers might turn down an application for a laundry service in an older building, these businesses are totally within our appetite as long as they are updated and well-maintained,” said Chris Parrillo, Head of Small Business Underwriting and Loss Control at Joyn. “For example, we recently underwrote a laundromat that wasn’t the newest facility but the inside was clean inside, the lint traps were cleaned regularly, there weren’t items or lint on the floor that could lead to slips, trips, and falls, and we were comfortable putting them on our books.”

For laundry services, maintenance and cleanliness are crucial as poor machine maintenance and uncleaned lint traps can increase fire risk while things like garbage or soap on the floors—if not cleaned up—can lead to injuries. Still, Parrillo says many of them are good risks that admitted carriers routinely turn down.

“There are a lot of good business owners out there who keep their facilities clean and organized and we want to partner with them,” he said. “We want to make sure that they have a place where they feel comfortable that they’re getting a product equivalent to what they can get in the admitted market and that they get treated just like they would in the admitted market space.”
