What is your role on Joyn’s Underwriting Team?
As a company that is focused on using technology and data better, I work with Joyn’s Technology teams to design, build, and evolve our proprietary underwriting platform. That’s really one of the keys to how we will offer a best-in-class and superior insurance experience.
I make sure that our underwriting technology aligns with our risk selection and profitability strategies so underwriters can make the best data-enabled decisions while enjoying the work they do every day. I also draft policy forms, research and monitor regulatory issues, participate in developing Joyn’s underwriting strategies, and create tactical technology tools to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of Joyn’s underwriting process.
Being a transparent underwriting partner and responding to every submission within 48 hours is one of our value propositions. Those things and the other ways we’ve streamlined the experience can’t happen without the technology powering our underwriting platform.
What attracted you to Joyn?
I was really attracted by the opportunity to work with people I believe in and trust. I know this leadership team and their reputations in the industry, so it was hard to say no to a chance to work with a leadership team that not only knows how to build a successful business, but also one that brings a team-first mentality every day.
For me, there is no better feeling than when a team works together and creates something great. So I’m excited about what we are going to accomplish.
I was also drawn by the challenge of making real improvements to the small and middle market insurance landscape. This is an area long overdue for innovation. Joyn is the perfect confluence of a big vision and the experience needed to execute on it, so they are really set up to be a leader in this field.
Tell us some things you enjoy outside of work.
I love sports, primarily baseball and the New York Mets. I also enjoy reading (fiction and non-fiction) and try to be actively engaged with a book every day. I am a father of four, so any other free time is generally spent with my family. I’m really looking forward to some trips when the pandemic is over.
